The Queen Mother was preparing the peach banquet and sent the seven fairy maidens to gather the ripe fruit from the three thousand six hundred trees of the peach garden. When the maidens came in, Sun Wukong had shrunk to two inches and was asleep among the leaves of a great peach tree; he showed himself, asked for the list of guests, learned that the Great Sage Equal to Heaven was not on it, and froze the seven maidens beneath the trees.
He then took the shape of the Barefoot Immortal, walked into the Jade Pool before the guests arrived, and ate and drank the wine, the dishes and the rare fruit on the tables clean, and drunk afterwards blundered into the Tushita Palace and ate the golden elixir.
When the maidens reported to her, the Queen Mother hurried to the Numinous Empyrean Hall to tell the Jade Emperor that the banquet was ruined and the imperial wine stolen, and it came out where the great peaches missing before the picking had gone. Heaven then sent its armies against Mount Huaguo, and the peach banquet broke up before its guests had gathered.
