Di Xin and Su Daji

Su Hu was ordered to send his daughter to Chaoge, and while the carriage lodged at the Enzhou post station the nine-tailed fox of the tomb of Xuanyuan slipped into the room, drew out the true Daji’s soul, took her likeness and went on to the palace. From the day he saw Daji, Di Xin stayed in the Shouxian Palace, ordered the Deer Terrace built and had the bronze roasting pillars made as she advised.

Queen Jiang had her eyes cut out and her hands burned, Bi Gan’s heart was cut out, and Huang Feihu’s wife Lady Jia fell to her death from a tower, and the bodies within and without the palace walls grew more numerous by the day.

Di Xin still feasted on the Deer Terrace, with Daji, the jade pipa spirit and the nine-headed pheasant spirit attending in the shapes of immortal women, and the lamps on the terrace shining out beyond the city wall. On the day the Zhou army entered Chaoge the three demons fled the palace by night and were stopped by Nüwa’s demon-binding cord; Di Xin covered himself with pearl and jade, climbed the Deer Terrace alone, and burned there with the palaces of Shang.
