Ao Guang and Jade Emperor

Sun Wukong came into the dragon palace of the Eastern Sea, tried several blades and halberds, pulled the sea-stilling divine iron out of the treasury, and finally called all four dragon kings together and took from them a phoenix-winged purple-gold cap, chain-linked golden mail and cloud-treading shoes. Once Ao Guang had seen him out of the palace, he conferred with the other dragon kings and that same day left the water palace, crossed the southern gate of heaven and laid his memorial before the Numinous Empyrean Hall.

The Jade Emperor asked how it had happened in the hall, and then received the memorial of King Qinguang of the underworld charging Sun Wukong with striking the monkey kind from the register of life and death. With the two memorials side by side on his table the Jade Emperor was about to order his arrest, and Taibai Jinxing stepped forward to ask for an amnesty.

The Jade Emperor consented, and Ao Guang withdrew from the hall and returned to the Eastern Sea to await the outcome. When Sun Wukong afterwards made havoc in heaven and the Jade Emperor sent armies to besiege the mountain, the loss of the Eastern Sea’s treasure was among the charges for which he was bound to the demon-executing platform.
