Fo Ben Shi Dao: Zhou Qing Attains the Dao

Fo Ben Shi Dao begins in the modern human world. Zhou Qing obtains the Compendium of Refining left behind by the Daoist Lingyun, deals in antiques and jade by day, and by night refines breath, makes talismans and forges instruments by the incomplete method in the book.

He obtains the Wheel of Extinction, the Blood-Transforming Blade and other objects in turn, and takes Liao Xiaojin as a disciple. Using the larva of a six-winged golden silkworm as a body, Zhou Qing divides his own spirit by the secret method of the Compendium and refines a second primordial spirit.

The Xuanyuan Dharma King, Kunlun and the schools of the human world enter the contest one after another. The seal binding the army-souls beneath Changping is found and Bai Qi comes free of his ancient confinement; Zhou Qing fights him from the human world into the seam between the three realms and on to the edge of the earth-immortal realm.

Zhou Qing refines a heavenly-immortal body in the earth-immortal realm and moves the Jade Pillar Immortal Mansion and his human-world disciples to Black Wind Mountain, opening a gate there under the name of the Way of Heaven Sect. Liao Xiaojin, Wen Lanxin, Yunxia and others cultivate in the mansion, and the disciples from the human world are brought over in batches.

Over forty years Zhou Qing meets in turn the armies of Niu Mowang, Bai Qi, the Heavenly Court and the demon kings. He is invested as the Gouchen Emperor and commands the soldiers of the Gouchen Palace by Yuanshi’s talisman, and the disciples of Black Wind Mountain begin to enter the wars of heaven and the earth-immortal realm under the name of the Way of Heaven Teaching.

Zhou Qing later gathers the bloodlines of the Twelve Ancestral Witches and joins the Chaos Bell to Pangu’s true body. After fighting Zhunti alongside Tongtian Jiaozhu, he receives the Shangqing brand with Tongtian’s help.

When Laozi and Yuanshi are summoned by Hongjun to Zixiao Palace, Zhou Qing goes beyond the thirty-three heavens and takes the Taiqing and Yuqing brands from the Taiji Diagram and the Pangu Banner. The three brands and Pangu’s body come together, and Zhou Qing attains the primal unity and takes the title of Lord of the Way of Heaven Teaching.

Seven saints afterwards meet at Zixiao Palace, and the Human, Chan, Buddhist and Way of Heaven teachings confer three times over the investiture. The dynasties of the world take up arms, the disciples of the four teachings go to the front, and the battlefields of heaven, of the earth-immortal realm and of the chaos open one after another.

As the calamity draws to its close, the names on the Investiture List are settled one by one. Those invested go to their divine posts, the surviving disciples leave the field with their broken treasures, and Zhou Qing, Tongtian, Nüwa, Laozi, Yuanshi, Amitabha and Zhunti each return to their own seats.
