The story of Will-Following Iron Staff

When the Six-Eared Macaque took Sun Wukong’s shape he also produced a Will-Following Iron Staff. It grew and shrank with its bearer and looked very like the golden staff.

The two Wukongs fought from Mount Huaguo to heaven, the underworld and Vulture Peak, the two iron staves striking against each other all the way, and none who watched could tell the true from the false. When Rulai named the Six-Eared Macaque, the staff vanished with his transformation.

When Wukong raised the golden staff and killed the Six-Eared Macaque, no second weapon was left on the ground. The Will-Following Iron Staff, like the false pilgrim’s appearance, had been made on the spot by the macaque’s own powers.
