Red Boy and Guanyin

After Sun Wukong had been hurt by the samadhi fire on Mount Hao, he hurried to the Purple Bamboo Grove in the southern sea to ask Guanyin to take the demon. Guanyin first had Moksa borrow the thirty-six heavenly blades from Li Jing, then threw her vase into the sea to fill it with a whole ocean and carried it to Withered Pine Ravine.

Hearing that Guanyin had come in person, Red Boy came out of his cave with the fire-tipped spear all the same and loosed the true fire at the lotus throne. Guanyin poured the water of the vase down, and the fire would not go out because Red Boy kept his spell going; so she turned the thirty-six heavenly blades into a lotus throne and lured him to sit on it. The moment the boy sat down the points went through both his legs; Guanyin then threw the golden bands into the air, and they became five rings about his neck, hands and feet.

Whenever Red Boy raised his spear the bands tightened, until he had to put down his weapon and follow Guanyin back to the southern sea, bowing at every step. At the Tide Sound Cave he took the name Boy of Wealth and stood with Moksa on either side of the lotus throne.
