Princess Iron Fan and Niu Mowang

Princess Iron Fan and Niu Mowang were married at the Plantain Cave on Mount Cuiyun, and the plantain fan in her hand could put out the fire of the Flaming Mountains, so that the people of the country came with gifts to ask for it year after year. After Red Boy was born, Niu Mowang lived mostly at the Moyun Cave on Mount Jilei with Princess Jade Face, while Princess Iron Fan kept the Plantain Cave alone.

When Sun Wukong tricked the true fan away to cross the Flaming Mountains, Niu Mowang took Zhu Bajie’s shape, took it back from him, and returned it to his wife. When Wukong and Bajie fought at the door of the Plantain Cave, Princess Iron Fan shut the stone gate fast while Niu Mowang showed his white bull form and met them in the valley.

Once Li Jing, Nezha and the strongmen of the Buddhist gate had closed in from every side, Nezha burned his horns with the fire wheel and held him with the pagoda, and he had to submit. Seeing her husband bound, Princess Iron Fan opened the cave, gave up the true fan, and told Sun Wukong the words for putting out the fire.
