The story of Elixir of Deathlessness

After shooting the suns, Hou Yi climbed to Kunlun and the Queen Mother of the West brought out the elixir of deathlessness and gave it to him. Hou Yi did not take it at once but carried it home for Chang’e to keep.

Feng Meng broke into the house while Hou Yi was away and demanded it, and Chang’e swallowed it, and her body rose at once from the ground. She passed the clouds into the moon palace, and the elixir stayed with her in the Guanghan Palace from then on.

Coming home, Hou Yi ran into the courtyard and saw only a figure in the moon, and set out fruits in the yard and made his offering to it from afar. The elixir the Queen Mother had granted never came back to Kunlun.
