Jade Emperor and Queen Mother of the West

When the Queen Mother held the peach banquet at the Jade Pool, she first sent word of the guest list and the order of the feast to the Heavenly Court, and then had the seven fairy maidens gather the great peaches in the garden. The Great Sage Equal to Heaven, whom the Jade Emperor had invested, was keeping that garden by order, and learned from the maidens’ own mouths that he was not among the guests.

Sun Wukong froze the seven maidens, took the shape of the Barefoot Immortal, entered the Jade Pool and ate and drank the wine and the rare fruit clean. As the hour of the feast came, the Queen Mother, hearing the maidens’ report, went to the Numinous Empyrean Hall to tell the Jade Emperor that the banquet had been ruined.

The Jade Emperor at once summoned the Pagoda-Bearing Heavenly King, Nezha and the divine officers of every department and ordered the siege of Mount Huaguo. After Wukong had been taken and had escaped the eight-trigram furnace, the Jade Emperor sent for Rulai to subdue him; and the feast at the Jade Pool was cleared away, the Queen Mother setting other officers to put the tables and the garden in order.
