Muzha and Guanyin

When Guanyin went east at Rulai’s order to find a pilgrim, Moksa travelled with her the whole way, noting the demons and condemned officers who were to wait for Tang Sanzang. Coming to the Flowing Sand River, Sha Wujing sprang out of the water onto the bank, and Moksa was ordered to fight him with his staff; only when the waves were rolling did Guanyin call a halt from the cloud and set out the matter of the pilgrimage.

Later, when Sun Wukong came to the southern sea for help against Red Boy’s samadhi fire, Moksa was sent to borrow the thirty-six heavenly blades from Li Jing and turned them into a lotus throne laid in the hills.

After Red Boy had been taken as the Boy of Wealth, Moksa stood with him before Guanyin’s seat and went on taking orders from the southern sea. When the pilgrims reached Vulture Peak, Moksa still attended Guanyin to the assembly and waited outside the hall for the final investiture.
