The story of Juliusun

Juliusun cultivated in the Feiyun Cave on Mount Jialong, carried the Immortal-Binding Rope, and taught the earth-travelling art to his disciple Tu Xingsun. When the Ten Absolutes opened he came down at the order of Yuxu Palace and reached the reed pavilion at Western Qi.

Zhao Jiang held the Earth Fierce Formation and drew thunder above and fire below with his banners of the five quarters. Juliusun stepped into it, opened the gate of heaven to bring out his auspicious cloud as a shield, then raised the Immortal-Binding Rope and had the yellow-scarfed strongmen carry Zhao Jiang out of the gate.

Zhao Jiang was thrown down below the reed pavilion, samadhi fire bursting from his seven orifices, and the Earth Fierce Formation was broken with him. Juliusun took back his rope, walked out of the gate at his own pace, and reported to Randeng at the pavilion.

On the mountain, Tu Xingsun was talked round by Shen Gongbao, stole the Immortal-Binding Rope and an elixir, and went down to join Deng Jiugong. With the earth-travelling art and the rope he captured Zhou officers one after another, and Yang Jian, recognising the treasure, went to Mount Jialong to report it.

Juliusun came to the field outside Western Qi, and Tu Xingsun dived into the ground the moment he saw his master. Juliusun worked a spell that turned the earth beneath him as hard as iron, seized his disciple by the hair, bound him with the Immortal-Binding Rope and carried him into the city.

Jiang Ziya meant to execute Tu Xingsun, but Tu Xingsun asked to marry Deng Chanyu first and die after. San Yisheng went to the Deng camp as go-between, Deng Jiugong at last brought his troops over to Zhou, and Juliusun left his disciple in the Zhou camp to serve.

When Tu Xingsun stole Yu Yuan’s five-cloud camel at Sishui Pass he was caught, put into the ruyi qiankun bag and set over a fire. The white crane boy brought Yuanshi’s order, and Juliusun came to the pass that night and lifted him out of the fire, bag and all.

When the Nine-Bend Yellow River Formation was set out, Juliusun entered with the Twelve Golden Immortals, was taken by the Hunyuan Golden Dipper and lost his three flowers and five breaths. Laozi and Yuanshi broke the formation, and he returned to the reed pavilion with his fellows.

When the Zhou army later reached Jiameng Pass, Shen Gongbao struck Jiang Ziya down on a mountain road with the Sky-Splitting Pearl, and was about to finish him when Juliusun appeared from below the slope. He caught Shen Gongbao with the Immortal-Binding Rope, revived Jiang Ziya with an elixir, and took Shen Gongbao to Qilin Cliff for Yuanshi to judge.

In the Ten Thousand Immortals Formation, Guiling Shengmu loosed the Sun-and-Moon Pearls after Juliusun. He dared not take them head-on and retreated westward; Jieyin Daoren blocked Guiling Shengmu ahead, and only then did Juliusun turn back to the formation.

Guiling Shengmu turned and threw the pearls at Jieyin, who caught them on a lotus flower and then struck her with his prayer beads, so that she showed her true shape as a great turtle. Juliusun ran up and drew his sword to kill her, and Jieyin stopped him.

Jieyin called the white lotus boy and told him to take Guiling Shengmu into his bag. When the mouth of the bag opened, a swarm of mosquitoes flew out first and drained her flesh and blood, and Juliusun stood by and watched the end of it.

As the Ten Thousand Immortals Formation fell piece by piece, Juliusun stayed on the ground with the Chan immortals until Tongtian Jiaozhu gathered what was left of his followers and withdrew.

When the Investiture war ended, Tu Xingsun had already died at Zhang Kui’s hands and was named on the Investiture List; Juliusun was not enfeoffed from the roll.
