The story of Xuanmen

In the common account of the schools of the Honghuang world, when the war of Dao and demon was over Hongjun came to Zixiao Palace beyond the heavens and opened its doors to preach. The Three Pure Ones, Nüwa, Jieyin and Zhunti came, and Dijun, Taiyi, Kunpeng, Zhenyuanzi and Hongyun after them.

Hongjun took the seat three times. The six mats in the hall were held by the Three Pure Ones, Nüwa, Jieyin and Zhunti, while the other listeners sat behind them, and between the sermons each returned to the world to cultivate.

At the last sermon Hongjun took Laozi, Yuanshi and Tongtian as personal disciples and numbered Nüwa, Jieyin and Zhunti among his followers. The six each received a stream of Primordial Purple Qi, and Hongyun received one as well.

As the preaching ended Hongjun divided his treasures among his followers, and what was left was set out on the treasure-granting bluff. Those who had heard him took what chance allowed and left Zixiao Palace.

Laozi founded the Human Sect, Yuanshi the Chan Sect and Tongtian the Jie Sect, and Jieyin and Zhunti founded a teaching in the west; Nüwa made humankind. The branches of the Mystic Gate took in disciples and taught at their own seats from then on.

When the six had become saints one after another, Hongjun merged himself into Heaven’s Way. Zixiao Palace stood closed for a long age, while the schools below it lived through the Wu and Yao clans and the rise of humankind.

Before Shang gave way to Zhou, Laozi, Yuanshi and Tongtian jointly signed the Investiture List. As the war widened, the disciples of the three teachings entered the Ten Absolutes, the Nine-Bend Yellow River Formation, the Zhuxian Formation and the Ten Thousand Immortals Formation in turn.

After the Ten Thousand Immortals Formation had been broken, Tongtian left the field with what was left of his followers, meaning to set earth, water, fire and wind in motion again. Hongjun came himself, dismissed the immortals with him, and took Tongtian to the reed pavilion to face Laozi and Yuanshi.

Hongjun made the Three Pure Ones kneel and gave each of them a pill, binding all three not to attack one another again. He then took Tongtian away, and Laozi, Yuanshi and the two saints of the west led their followers back to their own seats.
