Sun Wukong and Tang Sanzang

Tang Sanzang came below Five Elements Mountain, heard a voice calling from the stone box, and climbed to the summit to peel away the six-word paper seal Rulai had left. Sun Wukong broke out of the mountain, knocked his head and took him as master, and then killed six highwaymen; Tang Sanzang reproached him for taking life, Wukong left in temper, and Guanyin gave the monk the golden band so that when Wukong returned the band-tightening spell would keep him with the party.

At White Tiger Ridge, Wukong broke through the White Bone Demon’s three disguises and Tang Sanzang still wrote a letter of dismissal and drove him away.

After the trouble at the kingdom of Baoxiang, Bajie fetched him back from Mount Huaguo, Wukong rescued his master, and the party took the road again. The true and false Monkey Kings, the Women’s Country, Lion Camel Ridge and the rest followed one after another; the two argued and travelled on together, and were at last invested at Vulture Peak as the Buddha of Sandalwood Merit and the Victorious Fighting Buddha.
