The story of Bixiao

Bixiao lived on Three Immortals Isle with Yunxiao and Qiongxiao. When Zhao Gongming came from Western Qi to borrow the Golden Serpent Scissors, Yunxiao urged him to give it up and go back to his mountain; only after Hanzhi Xian came to the isle to press them were the scissors sent to the Shang camp.

After Zhao Gongming died under the Seven-Arrow Book of Nails, Bixiao left the isle with her two sisters, carrying the Hunyuan Golden Dipper and the Golden Serpent Scissors. The three entered Wen Zhong’s camp and went the next day to the Zhou lines to face Jiang Ziya and the Chan disciples.

Jiang Ziya raised the God-Beating Whip and struck Yunxiao from her blue simurgh, and Bixiao went forward at once to save her. Yang Jian loosed the howling celestial hound, which sprang at her shoulder and tore away cloth and flesh together.

Bixiao withdrew wounded to the Shang camp, and Yunxiao recovered after taking her medicine. The sisters gave up trading treasures before the lines, drew six hundred soldiers from Wen Zhong, and set out the Nine-Bend Yellow River Formation at the rear of the camp.

Half a month later the formation was drilled and its banners of five colours enclosed the nine gates. Bixiao held the front, and when Yang Jian came again she called out to ask whether he still dared loose that hound; Qiongxiao rode her swan out to meet him, and Yunxiao raised the Hunyuan Golden Dipper from behind.

Yang Jian was drawn into the dipper and thrown inside. Jinzha, Muzha, Nezha, Huang Tianhua and then the Twelve Golden Immortals entered one after another and were all taken by the dipper and left lying in the nine bends.

Yuanshi Tianzun came before the formation first, and Bixiao and her sisters kept the eight-trigram terrace and saw his auspicious cloud cover the Zhou camp. Laozi arrived on his green buffalo after him; the three sisters came out to meet their elders and then returned into the formation.

Laozi entered the Nine-Bend Yellow River Formation and Qiongxiao threw the Golden Serpent Scissors first, which he took into his sleeve. Bixiao at once lifted the Hunyuan Golden Dipper and turned its mouth on him.

Laozi threw the wind-and-fire mat into the air, and it held the dipper so that its light could not fall. He then had the yellow-scarfed strongmen carry the treasure away to Yuxu Palace, and seeing it taken, Bixiao came down from the eight-trigram terrace with her sisters.

Yunxiao was wrapped away in the Qiankun Diagram and Qiongxiao struck down by the Three-Treasure Jade Ruyi. Bixiao still came at Yuanshi Tianzun with a flying sword, and the white crane boy raised the ruyi again and knocked the sword to the ground.

Yuanshi Tianzun drew a case from his sleeve, lifted its lid and threw it into the air. Bixiao and her mount were taken into it together, and in a moment her body became blood-water within it, her soul going to the investiture terrace.

When Jiang Ziya opened the roll he installed Bixiao with Yunxiao and Qiongxiao as the Immortal Ladies Who Answer the Age. The Nine-Bend Yellow River Formation had already been taken down, and the sisters’ names and the Hunyuan Golden Dipper were written into the charge.
