At Jinji Ridge, Kong Xuan brushed every officer Jiang Ziya sent into his divine light, and for days the Zhou camp could not pass the ridge. One morning Zhunti Daoren came from the west with the Seven-Treasure Wondrous Tree and called Kong Xuan out before the pass.
Kong Xuan swept his blue, yellow, red, white and black lights down in turn, and within them Zhunti showed a dharma-body of twenty-four heads and eighteen arms, opening chains, canopies, garlands and blades one after another and pinning the five colours in place. Kong Xuan drew his light in and closed, and Zhunti struck him behind the heart with the tree and brought the empowering pestle down on his back.
After one long peacock cry Kong Xuan fell to the dust and showed his true shape as a great peacock. Zhunti mounted on his back and carried him west; the gate of Jinji Ridge then opened, and Jiang Ziya ordered the Zhou army to strike camp and go on towards Chaoge.
