The story of Jade Butterfly of Creation

The common account places the Jade Butterfly of Creation before the chaos was first opened, its face carrying the markings of the three thousand ways. When Pangu split the sky it broke with the chaos, and the shards scattered into the newborn world.

Hongjun found one of those shards about the time of the Longhan calamity and carried it west to Mount Sumeru. In the war of Dao against demon he worked out the gates of the Zhuxian Formation from the markings still on it and went in by separate roads with his companions.

After Luohou fell, Hongjun took up the shard and opened Zixiao Palace beyond the heavens. When its doors opened three times, the Three Pure Ones, Nüwa, Jieyin, Zhunti and many other cultivators came in to hear him in turn.

Hongjun sat on the preaching seat consulting the markings on the shard and expounded from the way of Da Luo to the severing of the corpses and to sainthood, and after the last sermon divided the Primordial Purple Qi and the treasures.

When the six saints had taken their places, Hongjun merged himself into Heaven’s Way, and the shard of the Jade Butterfly of Creation stayed with him at Zixiao Palace. At the end of the Investiture he appeared again to stop the Three Pure Ones from fighting and then took the three of them back beyond his gate.
