White Bone Demon and Zhu Bajie

When the White Bone Demon first came as a young woman bringing food, Zhu Bajie saw the rice and gluten in her basket and put down his rake to take some. Sun Wukong struck her down with the staff, and Bajie told Tang Sanzang that his elder brother had killed her on purpose for fear of having to share the food.

When the demon left false corpses a second and a third time, Bajie again pointed at the old woman and the old man on the ground and had Tang Sanzang say the spell against Wukong. Tang Sanzang wrote the letter of dismissal at last, and Wukong put down the luggage and went back to Mount Huaguo, so that Bajie took the road ahead with Sha Seng.

When the party was afterwards attacked by the Yellow Robe Monster in the kingdom of Baoxiang, Tang Sanzang was turned into a tiger and Sha Seng was taken. Unable to save them, Bajie had to cross the hills to Mount Huaguo and use a goading speech outside the Water Curtain Cave to fetch back the brother his few words had driven away.
