Tu Xingsun and Jiang Ziya

Once Tu Xingsun had joined Deng Jiugong’s camp, he came up through the ground into Western Qi every night, now leading away a mount, now lying under the commander’s tent ready to take someone. Jiang Ziya sent Yang Jian to look into where he came from, learned that he was Juliusun’s disciple, and went up Mount Jialong to fetch his master.

Juliusun forced Tu Xingsun above ground outside the city with the art of turning earth to steel and bound him into the Zhou camp with the Immortal-Binding Rope. Jiang Ziya meant to behead him for attempting King Wu’s life; San Yisheng and Juliusun both pleaded for him, and Tu Xingsun knocked his head before the tent and submitted.

Jiang Ziya then presided over his marriage to Deng Chanyu and put him in the vanguard. On the eastern march Tu Xingsun several times went under the walls to scout, and at Sishui Pass stole Yu Yuan’s five-cloud camel and was for a time held in the ruyi qiankun bag.

At Mianchi, Jiang Ziya sent him back to Mount Jialong for the art of turning earth to steel, and Zhang Kui killed him at Mengshou Cliff and hung his head on the city wall. When the scouts reported it, Jiang Ziya reckoned on his fingers and said in his own tent that it was he who had sent him away and so cost him his life.
