The story of Wenshu Guangfa Tianzun

Wenshu Guangfa Tianzun lived in the Yunxiao Cave on Mount Wulong and studied under Yuanshi Tianzun at Yuxu Palace. He took Jinzha as his disciple, and Jinzha later went down at his order to the Zhou camp at Western Qi.

Wen Zhong called in the Ten Heavenly Lords, who set out the Ten Absolutes outside Western Qi. Qin Wan held the Heaven Absolute Formation; Deng Hua went in first and died, and Randeng then sent Wenshu Guangfa Tianzun against it.

Wenshu walked into the Heaven Absolute Formation on white lotuses. Qin Wan shook his three-headed banner three times from the high platform and thunder and fire rose together in the formation; Wenshu spread the auspicious cloud above his head, and white light, golden lamps and lotus flowers shielded him.

Qin Wan’s banner could not move him, so Wenshu raised the Dragon-Binding Stake in the air. Three rings bound Qin Wan to the post; Wenshu cut off his head with his sword and carried it out of the Heaven Absolute Formation.

When the formation had been broken, Wen Zhong came on his black qilin to demand an accounting, and Huanglong Zhenren, riding a crane, stopped him and sent him back. Wenshu stayed at the reed pavilion to wait for Randeng to assign the remaining nine.

When the Nine-Bend Yellow River Formation was set out, Wenshu entered it with the Twelve Golden Immortals and was taken by the Hunyuan Golden Dipper. Laozi and Yuanshi broke the formation, he and his fellows were freed, and he went on travelling to and from Western Qi with the Yuxu disciples.

When Tongtian Jiaozhu set out the Zhuxian Formation at Jiepai Pass and the four sect-heads attacked it together, Wenshu came with Yuanshi Tianzun and supported his fellows inside until the Zhuxian Formation was broken.

In the Ten Thousand Immortals Formation, Qiushou Xian held the Taiji station and came out to challenge. Yuanshi gave Wenshu the Pangu Banner; he unfurled it to still the walls of bronze and iron within, showed his dharma-body, and bound Qiushou Xian with the demon-binding rope.

Nanji Xianweng chanted a spell below the pavilion, and Qiushou Xian showed his true shape as a green-maned lion. Yuanshi ordered Wenshu to take it as his mount, and the next day Wenshu rode the green lion before the Ten Thousand Immortals Formation.

After Jinling Shengmu killed Princess Longji and Hong Jin inside the formation, Wenshu, Puxian and Cihang closed on her together. Jinling Shengmu fought all three alone, back and forth through the broken ranks, until Randeng struck her down with the Sea-Stilling Pearls.

As the Ten Thousand Immortals Formation fell apart the Jie disciples scattered. Wenshu stayed on the ground with the Chan immortals until Tongtian Jiaozhu gathered what was left of his followers and withdrew.

When the formation was broken, Wenshu left the field with his green lion.
