Jade Emperor and Taibai Jinxing

Taibai Jinxing had stood in the Numinous Empyrean Hall for long ages, and whenever the Jade Emperor sent a decree below it was usually he who carried it past the southern gate of heaven. When the Eastern Sea and the underworld charged Sun Wukong at the same time and the Jade Emperor was about to send out his generals, Taibai stepped from the ranks of immortals and asked that the stone monkey be called up and held by an office first.

The Jade Emperor consented, and Taibai went twice to Mount Huaguo — bringing back a Bimawen the first time and, the second, a monkey king calling himself the Great Sage Equal to Heaven. When the amnesty had failed, Taibai returned to report before the throne and the Jade Emperor then ordered Li Jing to take troops and besiege the mountain.

During the pilgrimage, the Jade Emperor still often sent Taibai to appear in the human world, now to pass word to Sun Wukong and now to carry back the origins of a demon below. Each time his errand was done, Taibai set out at the steps of the Numinous Empyrean Hall everything he had seen below.
