Sun-Shooting Bow
The story
After the ten suns rose together the plants of the earth were scorched. Hou Yi climbed to high ground, set up the Sun-Shooting Bow, laid his long arrows to the string one after another and aimed at the golden crows in the sky.
The string sounded again and again, and nine burning suns came down one after another, leaving a single sun to light the world. Hou Yi took up his bow and went back to his people, and later carried it to Kunlun to ask for the elixir of deathlessness.
The Sun-Shooting Bow stayed in the human world afterwards, and later accounts keep it in Hou Yi’s old house or among the Wu tribes; it was never again used to shoot a sun from the sky.
