
When Luya came to Western Qi he set up an altar in the camp and wrote Zhao Gongming’s name on a straw figure. Jiang Ziya, following the formula of the Seven-Arrow Book of Nails, burned incense and shot at the figure every day.
After twenty-one days Zhao Gongming’s mind was in disorder in the Shang camp. Jiang Ziya climbed the altar and loosed the last arrow; the figure and Zhao Gongming were struck at the same moment, and he died at once, his soul going to the investiture terrace.
