Zhenyuanzi planted the ginseng-fruit tree in the rear garden of the Wuzhuang Temple, and his disciples Qingfeng and Mingyue watched it by turns. After the pilgrims came, Wukong pushed the tree over in a misunderstanding, and its branches and fruit sank together into the earth.
Zhenyuanzi overtook the pilgrims, brought them back to the temple and demanded that the numinous root be revived. Wukong fetched Guanyin, who poured the sweet dew of her vase over the roots, and the tree stood again and put out its branches and leaves.
