Cut from the moon palace’s suoluo wood, and carried by Sha Seng from his time as Curtain-Lifting General through the Flowing Sand River and the whole pilgrimage.

The story

The Curtain-Lifting General was granted the Demon-Quelling Staff, cut from the suoluo wood of the moon palace. Banished to the Flowing Sand River, he still held it in the water and fought the travellers who came that way.

When Zhu Bajie came to the bank, the Nine-Toothed Rake and the Demon-Quelling Staff traded dozens of passes. After Sha Seng was awakened by Guanyin and joined the party, the staff went with him all the way to Vulture Peak guarding Tang Sanzang.

When the yellow lion spirit of Yuhua stole the three brothers’ weapons, Sha Seng slipped into the cave, recognised his staff, and took the weapons back with Wukong and Bajie to fight the demons.
