Pangu Banner

In the common account of the treasures of the sky-splitting, the Pangu Banner was formed from the blade of the Pangu Axe and came afterwards to Yuanshi Tianzun, who carried it to Yuxu Palace on Mount Kunlun.

When the Investiture war reached the Ten Thousand Immortals Formation, Tongtian Jiaozhu set three further stations inside it: Taiji, Two Principles and Four Symbols. Qiushou Xian came out of the Taiji station with drawn sword to challenge the Chan disciples.

Zhunti Daoren touched the crown of Wenshu Guangfa Tianzun, and the three lights shone again from Wenshu’s head. Yuanshi then handed him the Pangu Banner and ordered him to break the Taiji station with it.

Wenshu took the banner to the front and traded several passes with Qiushou Xian, who withdrew into the station and set off his talismans, so that walls of bronze and iron seemed to rise on all sides and blades pressed in from within the array.

Wenshu shook the Pangu Banner into the wind, and its light held down the shifting of the Taiji station; then he showed his dharma-body within it, lotus flowers beneath his feet and jewelled chains about him.

Seeing the station checked, Qiushou Xian turned to withdraw. Wenshu raised the demon-binding rope, bound him, and had the yellow-scarfed strongmen carry him below the reed pavilion.

Nanji Xianweng chanted a spell before the pavilion, and Qiushou Xian showed his true shape as a green-maned lion. Yuanshi gave the green lion to Wenshu as a mount, and Wenshu rode it back before the Ten Thousand Immortals Formation.

Wenshu returned to the pavilion to report and handed the Pangu Banner back. The next day he rode the green lion to the front again, while Yuanshi went on directing the breaking of the formation from outside.
