Guiling Shengmu

Guiling Shengmu lived long with Tongtian Jiaozhu at the Biyou Palace on Jin’ao Island. After Huoling Shengmu’s death, Guangchengzi came at Yuanshi’s order to return the golden coronet to the Biyou Palace, and went in and out of it three times.

As Guangchengzi left, Guiling Shengmu hurried out of the gate and gave chase. The two fought beyond the island, and seeing that she would not break off, Guangchengzi raised the Sky-Overturning Seal.

The seal came down out of the air and Guiling Shengmu fell, showing her true shape as a great turtle. Guangchengzi did not press it; he took back the seal and left Jin’ao Island.

Tongtian Jiaozhu had already forbidden his disciples to pursue anyone over the coronet, and he rebuked Guiling Shengmu for disobeying him. She was sent out from the hall and waited outside the Biyou Palace for further orders.

When the Ten Thousand Immortals Formation was set out, Guiling Shengmu went in again with the Jie disciples. Juliusun entered the gate she held, and Guiling Shengmu raised the Sun-and-Moon Pearls; their light came at his face, and he turned and retreated out of the formation.

Guiling Shengmu chased him out of the gate and met Jieyin Daoren on the way. She gave up the chase, turned, and threw the light of the pearls at Jieyin instead.

Jieyin raised his hand and a lotus flower appeared; the pearls fell into it and were held there and came no further. He then struck her down with his prayer beads, and she fell again into the shape of a great turtle.

Juliusun ran up and drew his sword to kill her. Jieyin stopped him and would not let the blade fall, then called the white lotus boy and told him to take Guiling Shengmu away.

The white lotus boy came forward with his bag, and when he opened it a swarm of mosquitoes that had been hidden inside flew out first. The black swarm settled on Guiling Shengmu and drained her flesh and blood in a moment, leaving only an empty shell.

The swarm left the front of the Ten Thousand Immortals Formation and flew west. It found the Western Sect’s twelve-ranked lotus throne and ate three of its ranks away, so that the twelve became nine.

Guiling Shengmu did not die in open battle in the Ten Thousand Immortals Formation, nor was she enfeoffed on the roll Jiang Ziya read out. Her story ends when the white lotus boy opens the bag and the mosquitoes come out.
