What this rung means

A Heavenly Immortal has shed most of the mortal frame, can rise on cloud and travel far by his own power, and can go long without food or sleep. Ordinary mountains and rivers are no longer the end of the road: the gates of heaven, the sea-eyes and the cave-heavens begin to open to him.

At this level an immortal can change shape, drive wind and fire, refine talismans and instruments, and sense demonic air nearby with the primordial spirit. Journey demons such as the White Bone Demon are usually placed between Heavenly and Mystic Immortal for just this reason: they can take human shape and slip away in spirit, yet a mature immortal art can still cut them down outright.

When the Heavenly Court recruits lesser immortals, Heavenly Immortals may enter the ranks of its soldiers, its strongmen or the local divine offices, and carry out orders for rain, patrol and the taking of demons in the mountains, rivers and water palaces.

If they blunder into the formation of a great school or meet a primordial treasure, the immortal light shielding them may still be broken at a stroke; only by refining the primordial spirit and the laws further do they enter the rank of Mystic Immortal.
